U Mobile 5G: here is the list of phones that can connect to 5G

U Mobile customers with supported 5G-enabled prepaid and postpaid plans can enjoy faster 5G connectivity starting today (November 3, 2022). They are the fourth telecom company to offer commercial 5G services in Malaysia after Yes 5G, Unifi Mobile and Celcom. To connect to Digital Nasional Berhad’s 5G network, you will need a supported 5G plan, be within DNB’s 5G coverage areas, and have a supported 5G device.

Similar to Unifi Mobile, U Mobile does not support Samsung Galaxy S21 and S20 5G series which are already supported on Yes 5G. Interestingly, U Mobile’s list of devices didn’t include phones from Asus, OnePlus, Nokia, Realme, BlackShark, and Xiaomi. The compatibility of the device depends on the agreements between the telecommunications company and the manufacturer of the device and in most cases a software update is required.

When can iPhone support 5G on U Mobile?

U Mobile is still working with Apple to enable the service on existing 5G compatible devices via a software update. U Mobile is one of Apple’s four telecom partner companies in Malaysia, and users will need to get an operator settings update to enable 5G on their devices. The current iPhone 12, 13 and 14 series support the 5G bands required in Malaysia.

Which U Mobile plan supports 5G?

Currently, U Mobile is enabling 5G access for its U Postpaid 38, 68 and 98. Using 5G will use the plan’s existing high-speed data quota and that means you can use up to 1000GB for 5G on the plan U Postpaid 98. Note that these postpaid plans only include 5GB of hotspot per month.

For the prepaid, U Mobile offers 5G access to its U25 and U35 prepaid plans. However, users will only be able to enjoy 5G through a speed booster that can only be activated for one hour per day (30 hours per month). You can learn more about U Mobile’s 5G supported plans here.
