Actor Anne Heche reportedly in critical condition after car crash in Los Angeles | US news

American actress Anne Heche was reportedly taken to hospital in critical condition after a collision left her vehicle “engulfed in flames”.

The incident happened Friday morning in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, near Heche’s home.

The actor, 53, is the former partner of American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, and is known for films including Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids and Psycho.

Images and video footage obtained by US news outlet TMZ showed Heche driving a blue Mini Cooper, which was later pictured badly damaged at the scene.

The vehicle struck a two-story house and sparked heavy fire, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

“Fifty-nine firefighters took 65 minutes to access, contain and completely extinguish the stubborn flames in the heavily damaged structure,” an LAFD report said.

“A grown woman [was] found in the vehicle, which was transported to an area hospital by LAFD paramedics in critical condition.

The LAFD also confirmed to the PA news agency that the vehicle drove 30 feet into the house but the occupant escaped without injury.

The house was so badly damaged that it became uninhabitable, LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey added.

Heche’s ex-boyfriend Thomas Jane told the Daily Mail that Heche is “stable” and “needs to pull through”, despite being intubated.

CNN also reported that a source close to Heche said she was “lucky to be alive.” The source said the actor had “severe burns and has a long recovery ahead of him.”

Heche first crashed his Mini Clubman in a garage around 11 a.m. and then drove off. The Daily Mail released doorbell footage showing what it said was Heche’s car speeding down a residential street before an explosion was heard.
