Best Bets for Aug. 6 – The Daily Gazette

Every day one of our experts will suggest a better bet (or two or three). It can be a traditional spread bet, a player prop, or one of the various odds boosts offered by the books.

Here are the best bets for Saturday August 6:

BEST GAME

The game: MLB, St. Louis Cardinals silver line over New York Yankees

Odds/bet: -110 ($33 to win $30)

The book: BetMGM

Time/TV: 6:15 p.m. (fox)

Our opinion : It’s been a tough week for us when it comes to baseball betting, so we’ll try to end the week on a high note. We have two teams here with opposite dynamics, and we will try to capitalize.

The Cardinals came back to win Game 1 of the series here and have won seven of their last eight games. The Yankees, once baseball’s best team by five complete games, have lost four of five games and are just 6-9 since the All-Star break. They’re still in first place with a comfortable 10½ games, but their lead over the Houston Astros for home court advantage in the AL playoffs is reduced to a half game.

The interesting dynamic in this one: The Cardinals send to the mound Jordan Montgomery, who they just acquired from none other than the Yankees. Montgomery’s first start with the Birds at bat comes against his former team. You could argue either side could benefit from this, but either way, the truth is, Montgomery has been far better than Yankees starter Domingo German, who has been lambasted in his only three starts this season.

Aaron Judge is still hitting homers at a prolific rate, but without Giancarlo Stanton, the Yankees’ roster began to crumble everywhere else. Here’s a bet that holds for another day.

EPL SUNDAY

The game: English Premier League, Brighton +1 goal v Man United

Odds/bet: +120 ($10 to earn $12)

The book: FanDuel

Time/TV: 8:00 a.m. Sunday (peacock)

Our opinion : After betting on a more money bet in the EPL on Saturday morning, we’ll try again on Sunday.

Brighton are better than their points tally from last year would indicate, if you go by expected goals and possession cards. Manchester United, despite being one of the most famous clubs in the world, have had a tumultuous off-season – the Red Devils still haven’t figured out what to do with Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the pitch early in a friendly match and could be sold but also could start on Sunday.

Who knows what mood Man United will be in here? The Old Trafford crowd will likely provide a boost, but it’s a tough opening task for United, and getting a goal to play with for Brighton – you win in a draw and a one-goal loss pushes – is a bargain.

HOW WE DID

Friday’s best bets

(Starting Wednesday) Wyndham PGA Championship: Webb Simpson to finish in top 10 (LOSE $12)

MLB, Nationals over Phillies (LOST $15)

MLB, Pirates over Orioles (LOST $20)

MLB parlay, Rockies +1.5 over Diamondbacks/Reds +1.5 over Brewers ($10 LOSS)

English Premier League, Leeds beat Wolverhampton (WIN $13.50)

Friday profit/loss: -$43.50 (1-4)

Total for the week: -$168.70 (2-10)

Total for August: -$168.70 (2-10)

Total for 2022: -$308.80 (193-225)

REMARK: If a line or odds are negative, it considers the juice needed to place the bet. Ex: Team A is at -160 on the money line, you would have to bet $160 to win $100 (or $16 to win $10). OR Team B is a 5 point favorite at -110, you would have to bet $110 to win $100 (or $11 to win $10.)

Conversely, on the positive lines, if Team C is at +140 on the money line, a $100 will win $140 (or $10 to win $14).
