Fantasy Golf Value Picks: Top DraftKings PGA TOUR DFS Bargain Plays for the Presidents Cup

For the first time since 2019, the Presidents Cup will take place and be played at Quail Hollow Club (par 71, 7,047 yards, Bermuda Greens) in Charlotte, North Carolina. This famous course was renovated under Tom Fazio in 2016 and has hosted 16 of the last 19 Wells Fargo Championships and the PGA Championship in 2017, won by Justin Thomas.

On this classic par 71, being off the tee and catching fire with your flat club were the main ingredients for success. Of the last three champions at Quail Hollow, two have collectively placed in the top six in driving distance and SGP for the week. Two of the last three winners in Charlotte also ranked in the top three in efficiency on the 450-500 yard par 4 at Quail Hollow, which is certainly the most important hole length to focus on this week, with six of 10 par 4s to this par 71 falling in this range.

Now let’s move on to this week’s format. The Presidents Cup is a team tournament between Team USA and Team International, each consisting of 12 players. Unlike the Ryder Cup, which is a three-day event, the Presidents Cup is played over four days.

First, the tournament will begin Thursday with foursome matches, two against two alternating shots. Then they will play four-ball on Friday, which is when each golfer plays their own ball and teams of two players get the best score between their pairs on each hole. Saturday will then be split down the middle with four-ball matches in the morning and four-ball matches in the afternoon. Finally, they will play single matches on Sunday.

In total, there will be 30 matches, with each win worth one point and ties worth half a point. The first team to 15.5 points wins the Presidents Cup, and Team USA enters this week as winners of 11 of the first 13 editions of this unique tournament. With Team International losing many key players to LIV Golf – most notably world number 2 Cameron Smith – Team United States are huge -700 favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook win this year’s Presidents Cup.

For DFS, DraftKings offers Showdown contests for the Presidents Cup. If you are unfamiliar with this format, Showdown rosters include six players, including a captain and five flex players, with the golfer you choose as captain accumulating 1.5x DKFP. Additionally, the scoring system has been changed for this team format event.

Score per hole:

Holes won: +3 points

Halved holes: +0.75 pts

Lost Holes: -0.75 Pts

Unplayed Holes: +1.6 Pts

Matches won: +5 points

Matches halved: +2 pts

Series and bonuses:

Series of 3 consecutive holes won in the match (max 1 per round): +5 pts

No Holes Lost in Match Bonus: +7.5 pts

Please note that pairings are decided and matches are scheduled on Wednesday afternoons by team captains, and a golfer’s partner and/or opponents could certainly change their value to DFS. So be sure to analyze all of the official matchups on Wednesday before setting your rosters.

Below, I break down my three favorite flex options under $7.5,000 for the Presidents Cup on DraftKings.

Sungjae Im ($7,400 FLEX) – Very few players bring better form to Quail Hollow than Im. The 24-year-old has just wrapped up his 2022 campaign in impressive fashion. He recorded three second-place finishes in his last five starts of the season, including a T2 in the TOUR Championship, finishing just one stroke behind winner Rory McIlroy.

Im’s recent achievements can mostly be attributed to amazing work with his driver and putter, placing second in SG OTT and SGP in his last 24 rounds. Im also ranks third in SG on 450-500 yards par 4 during this span, which bodes extremely well for a trip to Quail Hollow. As the favorite to lead Team International in points on DraftKings Sportsbook at +600, Im is a great choice at just $7.4K.

Cameron Young ($6,600 FLEX) – Although Young lacks team experience, he is a terrific run for Quail Hollow. Last season, the Wake Forest product ranked second and third respectively in SG OTT and Driving Distance. Additionally, looking at this tournament’s field results at Bermuda green sites last season, Young ranks fifth in total strokes won. Overall, the 25-year-old had seven top-10 finishes in 25 starts last season, including five runners-up.

More impressively, Young finished second at the Old Course of the St. Andrews for the Open Championship, which was his major debut. Young holds the 10th highest rating on DraftKings Sportsbook to finish the Presidents Cup with the most points at +1800, but he’s only the 12th most expensive golfer on DraftKings, which shows you how undervalued he is from a DFS perspective.

Adam Scott ($6,000 FLEX) – Scott has earned five top-25 finishes in 11 Quail Hollow appearances and finished his 2022 season with a pair of T5 finishes in his last three starts. He enters the week winning shots with his putter in three consecutive tournaments and ranks 10th in driving distance when we compare the last 50 rounds of this field.

In addition to his tremendous form, Scott has won six of his last 10 singles matches and this will be his 10th appearance at a Presidents Cup. Scott easily brings the most experience to this Team International roster and is a worthy risk at this low salary.
