The English Premier League, German Bundesliga and French Ligue 1 kicked off their 2022-23 season on Friday with smoke and superclub firepower. On Saturday, the EPL delivered their first major thriller: Fulham held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.
In fact, the Reds had to come from behind twice. Darwin Nuñez, absent from the bench on his Premier League debut, canceled out Aleksandar Mitrovic’s opener in the first half. After Mitrovic again put Fulham ahead, Mo Salah equalized. But Liverpool couldn’t find a third goal and could already find themselves catching up in the title race.
Then, in the second EPL window, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams – the two leaders of a USMNT migration to the Premier League – will make their debuts for Leeds. Later, Chelsea could reveal Raheem Sterling to Everton. In Germany, after some Americans take the field in the first games, Bayern’s two main challengers clash; and in France, Lionel Messi is hoping to set up what could be his last European season at PSG.
