Gary Neville told The Overlap he expected Tottenham to finish third in the Premier League and claimed they were the only team that could possibly compete with Liverpool and Manchester City.

And it seems that they took advantage of a superb showcase. Tottenham’s potential was highlighted by the way they finished last season. And they’ve since added a number of impressive signings.

The likes of Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Clement Lenglet will feature heavily in the coming season. Meanwhile, Fraser Forster is a very capable understudy for Hugo Lloris.

In fact, Neville has been so impressed with the direction Tottenham is taking that he has backed Spurs to be the first two closest rivals this season. He also shared the three signings he expects to have the biggest impact.

“I have Spurs finishing third in my head because of Perisic, Bissouma and Richarlison adding to what they already have,” he told The Overlap.

“They won’t finish above Liverpool. But if Liverpool somehow falters, injures van Dijk, Tottenham are the only club that I think could potentially [rival the top two].”

Of course, there is plenty of time left in the window. And with that, Chelsea and Arsenal could make the kind of signings that would make Neville rethink his prediction.

But Tottenham could also have more to come. Reports on Wednesday claimed that they are in talks to sign youngster Destiny Udogie. And Conte will surely want more before the deadline.

Certainly, this season will be integral in determining how the next few years unfold in North London. If Conte gets a glimpse of success, it could be a very exciting time ahead for Tottenham.
