‘Hunger Games’ Prequel Signs ‘Euphoria’ Star Hunter Schafer – The Hollywood Reporter

Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer has joined Lionsgate’s hunger games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Serpents.

Schafer will play Tigris Snow, Coriolanus’ cousin and confidant, who advises him on everything – from his mentorship to the heart of his moral compass. She will appear on screen alongside Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, who will play Lucy Gray, the impoverished female District 12 tribute.

Schafer made her acting debut playing Jules on HBO Euphoria series. She also co-wrote and co-executive produced a special episode for the series, which aired in January 2021. Schafer is currently in production on the film Neon Hello by director Tilman Singer.

The latest adaptation of a Suzanne Collins novel will debut in theaters worldwide on November 17, 2023. Lionsgate’s four films hunger games The franchise had earned more than $3 billion worldwide when it ended in 2014, and it’s now looking to extend its life with the adaptation of Collins’ latest entry in the dystopian series, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Francis Lawrence, who led three of the four hunger games movies – Catching Fire, Mockingjay: Part One and Mockingjay: part two – returns to helm with franchise producer Nina Jacobson and her partner Brad Simpson returning as producers. Lawrence also produces. Collins, Tim Palen and Jim Miller serve as executive producers. Michael Lesslie wrote the final draft of the screenplay.

The Lionsgate prequel logline reads: “Years before becoming the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope of his dwindling bloodline, a once-proud family that has fallen out of favor in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, young Snow is alarmed when he is named a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute of impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray gets the full attention of Panem singing defiantly during the harvest ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their showmanship instincts and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird and who is a snake.
