Southampton are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City talent Kian Breckin, who has already been linked with the likes of FC Barcelona in his career.
According to the Sun, the Saints are once again looking to raid the Etihad Stadium for their prized talents having already spent £40m in the summer to recruit Romeo Lavia, Gavin Bazunu and Sam Edozie, with City’s academy director Jason Wilcox also set to join Southampton in the coming days.
Breckin is regarded by many as one of City’s most exciting talents with the 19-year-old Manchester-born winger a regular at Premier League 2-level, with the midfielder bagging three goals and three assists and potentially in line for a loan move this January.
However, Southampton could soon now make a move to sign Breckin, with the teenager once courted by Barcelona as per Man City Core, though the youngster opted to remain in Manchester with City, a move that has proven very beneficial for the youngster.
Indeed, City’s academy is now arguably the best in England, with CFG doing well to pour millions into the Manchester side’s development programmes and training facilities that has since produced the likes of Phil Foden, Rico Lewis and Cole Palmer.
And now, Breckin could be the next youngster to make the leap from the academy to a senior squad, with Southampton signing the midfielder a move that could benefit all parties given how unlikely it currently is for the youngster to break into Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans.
City have been making the pathway from the academy to the senior squad clearer in recent years, but when it comes to the central midfield, it will have to take a generational talent for a player to challenge the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri and Bernado Silva. Which is why Breckin could be smart in signing for Southampton.
After all, the Saints have seen their three City signings from last summer all feature heavily for the club this season. And in Breckin, the midfielder could be the next player to make the jump under Nathan Jones, with familiar faces in Lavia and Bazunu something that could win over the midfielder.
