El Chiringuito journalist Jose Alvarez has reported that Barcelona have now completed the signing of Ilkay Gundogan from Man City on a free transfer.
The City captain, whose contract expires in the summer could now be set to bid farewell to Pep Guardiola’s side.
With Barcelona potentially have won the race to sign Gundogan as a free agent, Man City may need a brand-new replacement for the club legend.
While Maximo Perrone is set to join the club (as per the Daily Mail), he is likely to provide cover in both No.6 and No.8 roles.
As a result, the departure of the German international could now intensity the Sky Blues’ efforts to land Jude Bellingham in 2023.
Despite Liverpool and Real Madrid widely tipped to sign the Borussia Dortmund talisman, the Premier League champions may consider him as a priority addition, now that the club captain could leave.
While Barcelona have clearly been trying to sign Bernardo Silva for the past couple of windows, it seems Ilkay Gundogan is now the midfield maestro they aim to sign from Man City, and that too, on a free transfer.
The 32-year-old’s exit from the blue side of Manchester will certainly be felt, considering he has been a mainstay in the side since his arrival for £20 million (Guardian) back in 2016.
El Chiringuito’s Jose Alvarez has claimed that Barcelona have ‘closed’ the deal to sign Ilkay Gundogan from Man City on a free transfer in the summer.
Furthermore, the veteran, who Pep Guardiola once called ‘incredible’ and classed as ‘one of the most intelligent’ players he has ever seen (via talkSPORT) is keen on a switch to Spain for ‘family reasons’, and is of the belief that his time at the club has come to an end.
Man City fans are expected to be in bits, as the potential switch involving Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona could spell the end of a club legend’s time in sky blue.
In other news, Liverpool reportedly wanted Arnaut Danjuma to replace Sadio Mane, could now succeed Gakpo instead
