John Daly was a guest on the Piers Morgan Uncensored show and shortly after the six-minute interview he revealed he really wanted to be part of the LIV Golf Invitational Series, the breakaway league offering huge bonuses signing, giant purses, 54-hole tournaments. and no cuts so that every golfer receives something for their efforts. And Daly wasn’t shy about it.
“I begged Greg Norman to let me go on the LIV tour,” he said.
He went on to explain how he thinks the LIV Tour is better than the PGA Tour or even the PGA Tour Champions, where Daly spends most of his playing time now.
“I played with Brian Harman in a practice round, and with some other guys in some practice rounds at the British Open and it’s like we’re playing pro-ams, we get it. D “OK. That’s what’s the backbone of a lot of our tournaments. But, says Brian Harman, give us a box of chocolates for the effort.
“I play two to three pro-ams every week on the Champions Tour and we don’t play for a lot of money on the Champions Tour, so I’m almost like, ‘OK, I’m not getting much out of it. . What do we do?’
“Listen, sometimes I prefer to play with amateurs rather than pros, but we have to be rewarded for that. The LIV Tour offers this to players. They’re playing pro-ams, it’s a big party, they’re playing for a lot of money, and these guys on this tour, they deserve that money. And I think there are a lot of other guys who deserve that money.
And then, using both hands to show off, Daly said, “Especially that old man.”
Morgan then mentioned a track he wrote for the New York Post about the hypocrisy of morality in sport “and many PGA sponsors, for example, do a lot of business in the Middle East”.
He then asked Daly his opinion on hypocrisy in sports, especially golf.
“Piers, let’s not talk about that. They don’t want to be mentioned in there because of, you know, all the labor laws and stuff. It’s incredible. The politics are so stupid in there. I could talk about Nike, I could talk about other companies. Eight-year-olds make shoes for Nike. OKAY. We don’t want to get into that, do we? You want to talk about labor law. We are talking about golf. Guys who play golf. It is an international sport.
“The Prince of Saudi Arabia is a great guy and he has given so much money to golfers who deserve it. Well, there are some who don’t deserve it [motions to himself again] because I should be on this tour.
Daly admitted he was too old but also seemed to indicate that Norman might not invite any more golfers to LIV.
“Greg says he’s not doing anything anymore.”
Daly went on to say that Bryson DeChambeau told him at The Open Championship that LIV Golf “is the greatest thing on earth. We’re still playing a pro-am. … we’re playing for a lot of money, which we deserve to play.
Saudi Arabia has been accused of numerous human rights violations, including politically motivated killings, torture, enforced disappearances and inhumane treatment of prisoners. And members of the Saudi royal family and government have been accused of involvement in the murder of Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.
