Man Utd striker receives transfer invitation from thriving star with Leeds Utd links

Man Utd striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been asked to join the surprise Serie A package by a former Leeds Utd player who is enjoying a career renaissance.

The 37-year-old recently confirmed he has no plans to retire from international football after the World Cup in Qatar. In reality, Ronaldo hopes to participate in Euro 2024 in Germanyhe will then be 39 years old.

Ronaldo remains a key part of Portugal’s setup on the international stage. However, his career at club level is in limbo.

Veteran striker pushed to leave Manchester United this summer, citing his desire to continue his Champions League legacy.

A long list of clubs across Europe were linked, although the end result was Ronaldo staying at Old Trafford.

Worse still for Ronaldo, minutes on the pitch proved hard to come by under Erik ten Hag.

Marcus Rashford has generally been favored at the top of the league. His situation won’t improve either when Anthony Martial returns to full fitness.

The Frenchman looked like a man on a mission in pre-season and would have started the campaign at centre-forward had he not been sidelined through injury.

Ronaldo’s current contract expires next summer, although United hold an option for a further 12 months.

Right now, it looks like they aren’t triggering him, which means Ronaldo could become a free agent in nine months.

The rumor mill would go into overdrive in this scenario, and Udinese goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has done his part to keep the wheels turning early.

Ex-Leeds star extends invitation to Udinese

The 31-year-old striker played for Leeds United between 2014 and 2017 before returning to Italy when he was ousted by Rob Green.

He regained his place at Verona before moving to Udinese ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. Silvestri is Udinese’s starting goalkeeper and has helped them become Serie A’s surprise package this season.

Indeed, after seven matches, they sit third in the table and have impressive 4-0 and 3-1 wins over Roma and Inter Milan respectively on their CV.

Silvestri played an important role in their rise to power and reacted to a DAZN post on Instagram sharing Ronaldo’s comments on his future, Silvestri replied “Come to Udinese” in Italian (via lens).

Udinese got in on the action, posting an eyes emoji shortly after.

Could Cristiano Ronaldo really join Udinese?

Ronaldo’s main demand is Champions League football and Udinese are currently in the top four of Serie A.

However, the season is still young and players like Lazio, Roma, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus will have every chance to chase them down.

Moreover, Ronaldo is currently pocketing just north of £500,000 a week.

This salary level would put him beyond the reach of clubs much higher in the European hierarchy than Udinese.
