Maple Hill hosts world’s best disc golfers for tournament

LEICESTER, Mass. – The world’s best disc golfers are in Leicester this weekend for the 5th annual MVP Open. The tournament runs through Sunday at Maple Hill Disc Golf Course.

The Leicester course was recently named the world’s first disc golf course by U-Disc. With a field of the top 88 men and 40 women, the MVP Open is Maple Hill’s 19th premiere event.

Course owner Steve Dodge said he always looks forward to spectators having a good time.

“The fans are embracing these players,” Dodge said. “Players have been busting their asses for decades and in the last three or four years they’ve started to be able to tour full time and the fans embrace them picking their favorites and going out and following their favorite players through the courses. It’s a beautiful thing.

“If you’ve never played disc golf, come to Maple Hill. We have discs to borrow, we have a very easy beginner’s course and we’ll show you how to hold a disc and give it a peek.”

The open is the last elimination event before the circuit championship. There is a “Million Dollar Hole-In-One” contest for the men’s and women’s contest on Saturday.

Tickets are sold for Saturday and Sunday.
