Matute named co-anchor at 12News

12NewsTEGNA’s ABC/NBC subsidiary serving the Beaumont-Port Arthur area, announced that Brenda Matute was named lead co-host of 12News at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Matute, who grew up in the Houston area, comes to 12News after recently serving as a morning anchor at KVEO in Harlingen, Texas. Matute, the only Hispanic anchor in the market, joins the co-anchor Jordan Williams, Chief Meteorologist Patrick Vaughnand 409Sporting Director Ashly Elam to deliver the latest news, weather, sports and trends with a distinct Southeast Texas perspective.
“We are thrilled to welcome Brenda to Southeast Texas and to the 12News family,” said John Trevino, Managing Director, 12News. “She is an exceptional journalist whose passion, drive and strong Texas roots will fit perfectly into our evening newscasts.”

Matute graduated from the University of Houston in 2016 and worked as a producer/reporter at KIDY/Fox, the TEGNA station in West Texas, before moving to KZTV in Corpus Christi as a reporter. During her career, she’s covered life-threatening flooding in West Texas, animal cruelty, the first superspreader outbreak of COVID at a meat plant, and former President Trump’s visit to the border in the Rio Grande Valley.

“After traveling the Texas coast, I’m excited to be closer to my roots,” she said. “I’m excited to tell important stories in Southeast Texas and highlight what matters to this community.” Matute’s first newscast was on September 5 at 6 p.m.

More than 60 independent specialty gas companies from across the United States and Puerto Rico visited the Coastal Welding Supply newly opened Specialty Gas Laboratory Wednesday. Coastal hosted the Purity Plus annual meeting at its premises in Beaumont.

PurityPlus is the largest and most experienced partnership of independent specialty gas companies producing and distributing locally to end users in the pharmaceutical and life sciences, foodservice and beverage, environmental, research and academic laboratories, electric and utility companies.

Coastal Welding Supply is a Beaumont-based family business with 12 locations in Southeast Texas, Southwest Louisiana and along the Corpus Christi Coast. For 59 years, Coastal has provided welding supplies, industrial and specialty gases, industrial equipment, as well as PPE/safety and contractor supplies to the petrochemical community.

The Beaumont area Toastmasters group, Toastmasters of the Golden Triangle holds an open house on Monday at 6:45 p.m. President Randy Conley said the club are delighted to introduce themselves to the local community and would love to meet a guest (and a friend). The theme of the evening will be “Prepared and impromptu speeches”. Good food and a fun atmosphere will be there.
The group will meet in Lamar University‘s Cherry Engineering Building Room 3204/6 on the second floor. The Cherry Engineering Building is adjacent to the south side of the Lamar Library parking area.
Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders. Based in Englewood, Colorado, this nonprofit organization has more than 300,000 members and 15,800 clubs in 149 countries.
The Beaumont Area Toastmasters Group has been active since 1976. It provides a supportive environment for motivated individuals who want to improve their communication and leadership skills.

Lamar University former student From Monica D. Gladney, the class of 1990 was named a Top 30 influential women in Houston honored.
The Top 30 Women celebrates the accomplishments and spirit of giving of hundreds of diverse, influential and powerful women in and around Houston. The women come from diverse backgrounds, share different beliefs and have overcome obstacles, but have a common goal: to excel and mentor the next generation of leaders. Candidates are selected by self-nomination or may be nominated by others.
Winners will be officially recognized at the annual The Top 30 Influential Women of Houston Awards gala.
Gladney is originally from Houston. She received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, cum laude, from Lamar University and a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Houston Law Center. She began her legal career as an information attorney for the Fourteenth Texas Court of Appeals in Houston. Gladney is currently a senior attorney at ExxonMobil, where she has practiced for more than 27 years.

In addition to a successful legal career, Gladney is an accomplished writer, poet and inspirational speaker. She is the best-selling author of the new version, “My Journey: Poetic Expressions Inspired by Faith”, as well as “Identity Theft: Discovering the Real You”, “Ready to Wait: Revelation to Manifestation” and “Reflections of God.”
