Could Michigan State basketball add its third major commitment in less than two weeks? Recruitment experts suggest that it is.
Four-star small forward Coen Carr will announce his college’s decision next week, Tuesday (August 9), and over the past 24 hours there have been multiple reports suggesting Michigan State will be his pick.
Michigan State collected a pair of crystal ball predictions for Carr from 247Sports recruiting insiders Justin Thind and Sean Scherer on Saturday. There was also a report from On3’s Jamie Shaw that indicated Michigan State was the undisputed favorite to land Carr, with an 80% chance at this point.

Carr ranks 59th overall prospect and 10th small forward in 247Sports composite rankings for the Class of 2023. He has offers from 14 schools and is reportedly closely considering Tennessee, Indiana, Vanderbilt and State of Michigan.
If Carr chooses Michigan State, he would be the Spartans’ fourth commitment in the 2023 class. He would join five-star forward Xavier Booker, four-star point guard Jeremy Fears and four-star small forward Gehrig Normand. Those three commitments already put Michigan State near the top of the nation in the recruiting rankings with the No. 4 class and if Carr joined the mix, Michigan State would certainly end up with arguably Tom Izzo’s best class ever.
