Nice complete signing of Denmark goalkeeper Schmeichel from Leicester City

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag insisted he was “not at all frustrated” with the club’s transfer window, despite the difficulties in the market.

United signed Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia ahead of the 2022-23 campaign but were unable to land other targets, including Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

This has led to some reports that the club are concerned about the limited number of new arrivals ahead of the Premier League season, which United start at Old Trafford against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

Ten Hag, however, denied feeling that way, adding that he was “really happy” with the three additions the club made.

“I’m not frustrated at all. First of all, we have a team and we’ve already improved. We’re more proactive than at the start,” he told Sky Sports.

“Secondly, there are the players we have now signed. We are really happy with them. You can already see that they can contribute to the team.

“The last thing is that we know what we want. It’s not about signing players, it’s about signing the right players.

“So we’re really planning it carefully and sticking to it and working hard to bring in the right players to build a good team and a team that can win games.”

Another issue for United at the end of the season was Cristiano Ronaldo, who is widely reportedly looking to leave the club in order to continue playing Champions League football.

The Portugal international managed just 45 minutes in pre-season, having missed the club’s tour of Australia and the Far East, leaving him lacking in fitness ahead of the campaign.

There have also been questions about whether Ronaldo could fit into the style of play Ten Hag will adopt at United this season, but the Dutch manager has no worries.

“It starts with his fitness because he’s just getting started,” he added.

“He’s a fantastic football player, and he’s proven that time and time again, but you’re always judged on what you present now and how well you perform.

“So the team and Cristiano himself have to prove it.”
