Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki’s blistering streak continued with a fourth goal in four games to hand Finland a 1-1 draw against Romania in the Nations League on Friday night.
Pukki headed home from the edge of the box to put the hosts ahead in Helsinki but Florin Tanase equalized in the second half.
The Canaries sniper was substituted in the 75th minute, having extended his lead at the top of his country’s goalscoring charts, with his 37th goal in 107 international appearances.
Pukki was also on target for his club in recent Championship wins over Coventry City and Bristol City.
The 32-year-old was back on national duty for the first time since the transfer window closed.
Pukki’s representative indicated earlier this summer that the striker wanted to stay in the Premier League, following the club’s relegation, but speaking to Finnish media in the build-up, the striker accepted that was not a starter.
“There were all kinds of inquiries but no one intended to offer as much as Norwich ultimately wanted from me,” he said. “Yes, I realized quite quickly that this (the transfer) was not going to happen.
“But I don’t even think about it anymore, it’s gone and we’ll be a Norwich player this season as long as the contract is up. So let’s think ahead.
Pukki is now in the final 12 months of his contract with Carrow Road, after Norwich took up his club option, but would be free to speak to overseas clubs from January.
His team-mate Marcelino Nunez featured in the second half of Chile’s 2-0 friendly loss to Morocco in Spain.
The Canaries summer signing earned his 10th cap for La Roja as a half-time substitute, but former Southampton striker Sofiane Boufal scored from the penalty spot midway through the second half.
Abdelhamid Sabiri sealed the victory. Chile will face World Cup hosts Qatar next Tuesday in Austria.
