Olivia Cooke, Adam McKay Team for Horror Thriller ‘Breeders’ – The Hollywood Reporter

Olivia Cooke, one of the stars of HBO game of thrones prequel Dragon Housewill play in Breedersa horror project Lionsgate just acquired that will mark the directorial debut of rising filmmaker Kelsey Bollig.

Adam McKay, the filmmaker behind Netflix’s success Don’t look up and an executive producer on HBO winning timeis one of the originators of the idea and produced through his Hyperobject Industries banner along with the company’s Todd Schulman.

The Connectline is being kept locked away in Lionsgate’s vault, but a source has described the projects as a social horror thriller that’s tonally in the vein of Costsa thriller gone wrong starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan that debuted on Hulu in March.

McKay came up with the idea with Brian Steele, who then wrote the screenplay.

Bollig has been kicking the horror playground since she was a child, landing her first Best Screenplay award at the age of 12 for her feature film Big kids play manslaughter Hollywood Shriekfest Horror Film Festival. Lionsgate was delighted to have attracted the talent on the rise, with the studio’s president of production, Erin Westerman, saying, “Her films come straight out of a horror sensibility she’s honed all her life, and Breeders is a perfect example – it will be terrifying and Olivia Cooke is perfect for that. It’s also a pleasure to work with Adam, who originated this idea and will lead Kelsey’s project with top-notch expertise and sense of story.

The project was brought into the studio by Scott O’Brien and will be overseen by O’Brien and Brady Fujikawa.

Cooke currently co-stars on Apple TV+ slow horses with Gary Oldman and recently appeared in the Best Picture Oscar nominee The sound of metal. In the long-awaited Dragon Housewhich debuts on August 21, she plays a character named Alicent Hightower.

Steele recently served as producer and lead writer for the McKay-nominated podcast at Ambie Death on the wing. He has written, directed and produced content for Funny or Die, TruTV, Fremantle, IGN and My Damn Channel.

Cooke is replaced by CAA, The Artists Partnership, Grandview and Hansen, Jacobson. Bollig, who recently directed a series of short vignettes that will live between episodes of the final season of Hunters for Amazon and Monkeypaw, is replaced by CAA, Grandview and Yorn, Levine. Steel is replaced by Hansen, Jacobson.
