Thunderstorm with lightning likely in Odisha in next 48 hours: IMD

Several parts of Odisha will experience moderate rains and thunderstorms over the next 48 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Thursday.

According to the IMD, the low pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjacent southern Uttar Pradesh has become less marked.

Apart from this, the trough now extends from the northwest and adjoins the central western Bay of Bengal to the central parts of western Rajasthan through Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan and extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.

Meanwhile, no district of Odisha has received insufficient rainfall this monsoon season, data from the Indian Meteorological Department has revealed.

Day-1 (valid until 08:30 IST of 23.09.2022)

Yellow warning (to be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj districts.

Heavy rains are also very likely to occur at one or two places over Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi districts.

Day-1 (valid from 08:30 3.09.2022 to 08.30 IST 24.09.2022)

Yellow warning (to be updated) Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Angul districts.

Day-3 (valid from 08:30 IST 24.09.2022 to 08:30 IST 25.09.2022)

Light to moderate rains/thunderstorms will most likely occur at a few places over the coastal districts of Odisha Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh and one or two places over the other districts of Odisha.

Light to moderate rain/thunderstorms very likely to occur at one or two locations over Odisha districts till 27th September 2022.
