Thunderstorms, Fierce Winds In NJ Friday, Weekend Forecast

NEW JERSEY – Take advantage of the dry (albeit cloudy) weather while you can, New Jersey: Multiple rounds of thunderstorms and high winds are expected to hit the Garden State Friday and into the weekend, forecasters say.

Friday will first see a chance of showers between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then a chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The showers will be interrupted by a few periods of sunshine, warming the state to around 90 degrees, the agency added.

Friday’s storms are also not expected to be severe, the National Weather Service said in a forecast discussion. Instead, the main concern for residents should be strong winds.

“Expect a low but not zero risk of a few severe storms, primarily a threat of wind, by late afternoon,” the agency said.

New rounds of thunderstorms are expected mostly before 8 p.m., with winds becoming calmer in the evening.

Saturday should be clear until another chance of showers and thunderstorms sweep through the Garden State around 2 p.m. until 11 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Periods of sunshine with a high near 88 degrees can also be expected, AccuWeather forecasters added.

The good news: Showers are expected to subside by 11 p.m. Saturday, leaving a pleasantly clear forecast Sunday with a high near 86 degrees.
